Though there are other dates on which this festival is celebrated in different parts of the world. Many European countries have different names for this festival too. It was started as a festival of harvest by making sacrifices for the harvest which was obtained on the previous year and also of the preceding year. This is a festival of joy and mirth for many people and hence is celebrated on a grand scale by them. People make preparations for the celebration of this festival from a month prior and leave no effort to make it magnificent.
